Kay Why?

I know I just posted my "last" entry of the school year but I was reminded the other day of a hilarious story that happened months ago. I wanted to share it with you.

Spanish 2 students learn vocabulary words for toiletries. I assign a homework assignment where they go home and write down the brand they use of shampoo, soap, deoderant, lotion, and toothpaste. I tell them that I won't, of course, know if that's really the brand they use since I'm not about to come to their houses and check. The only way I know if they understand the word is if they write a reasonable brand for that item. For example, Crest deoderant? I don't think so.

I was walking around checking the homework, reading through them quickly when one boy's entry caught my eye. It said, "Lotion = KY". I frowned at him and said, "This is inappropriate". He got defensive and reassured me that it's a lotion. "I swear, Triple M, it's a lotion! I found it in my mom and dad's bedroom. I'll bring it in! I swear it's lotion, I'm not making it up." When he offered to bring it in I told him to please please please not bother and that I'd give him the point.
